I didn't think about teaching it from the point of view of "author's craft" (even though that's what the book's purpose really is)! I agree that last part of giving...I need this book! I agree that last part of giving a BAS to a student is always the trickiest. And it makes sense- our curriculum doesn't focus on this at all. We began to ask the simple question this year, "Why did the author add that part?" to our read aloud, and it helped, but I like how explicit this is and the way you organized the chart... you WORKED that chart, Deb!
